H. W. L. Poonja

Sri H. Poonja was born in Gujranwalla , in western Punjab, now in Pakistan, in a family of Saraswat Brahmins. His mother was the sister of Swami Rama Tirtha. The experience was so overwhelming it had effectively paralysed my ability to respond to any external stimuli. For about an hour they tried everything they could think of to bring me back to a normal state of consciousness, but all their attempts failed. He was persuaded by his mother that he could regain this experience by devotion to the Hindu god Krishna , and so he gave himself over to this and began to have visions of Krishna.

Venkatasubramanian, Robert Butler and David Godman Edited and annotated by David Godman "That which is worth taking up is the Self-enquiry that reveals the knowledge of the Self; that which is worth enjoying is the grandeur of the Self; that which is worth renouncing is the ego-mind; that in which it is worth taking refuge, to eliminate sorrow completely, is one's own source, the Heart. That which should be attained is true knowledge of the Self; that which the mind should meditate upon is the feet of God; that on which one should firmly depend is satsang; that which should well up in the Heart is peace. Description:

He was born in what is now Tiruchuli , Tamil Nadu , India. In , an attraction to the sacred hill Arunachala and the 63 Nayanars was aroused in him, [4] and in , at the age of 16, he had a "death-experience" where he became aware of a "current" or "force" avesam which he recognised as his true "I" or "self", [web 1] [5] and which he later identified with "the personal God, or Iswara ", [web 1] [note 2] that is, Shiva. This resulted in a state that he later described as "the state of mind of Iswara or the jnani".

I am That from where you, me, she, he, and all the rest emerge. I am That. Papaji, how does an awakened being like yourself see the world? As my own Self. When you see your hands, feet, body, mind, senses, intellect, you know they are part of you. In the same way you must see the world as yourself, as not different from who you are.

This book is a collection of timeless teachings from Advaita teacher nirgun john of San Francisco, CA. Poonja Papaji or other well-known Sages, but he does present it in his own unique way that keeps the serious spiritual seeker 'looking' in the right direction. In this book, we are clearly reminded that if we wish to awaken in this lifetime, the commitment to knowing the truth has to be the highest. Each chapter begins with a pointer for reflection and meditation. It is a book that can be picked up and opened at any point for reading and contemplating the message within that chapter. What if none of this existed?
