You usually need to read a Terry Pratchett novel to ensure constant laughter throughout but Rowling has managed to infuse this book with a lovely wit and charm that will both amuse and delight adults and children. Dudley looked a lot like Uncle Vernon. He had a large, pink face, not much neck, small, watery blue eyes and thick, blond hair that lay smoothly on his thick, fat head. Aunt Petunia often said that Dudley looked like a baby angel — Harry often said that Dudley looked like a pig in a wig. There are characters in this book that will remind us of all the people we have met.

The book was first published on 26 June ,  by Bloomsbury in London, and was later made into a film of the same name. The book was released in the United States under the name Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone , because the publishers were concerned that most American readers would not be familiar enough with the term " Philosopher's Stone ". However, this decision lead to criticism by the British public who felt it shouldn't be changed due to the fact it was an English book. He's never worn a Cloak of Invisibility , befriended a giant, or helped hatch a dragon.
I'm reading for the first time this book to my daughter 6 years old , but for me 37 years old it's the third time I read "Harry Potter and the philosopher's stone". Everyone should read this book, if only to realize why the phenomenon "Harry Potter" has spread. - The first novel in the Harry Potter series and Rowling's debut novel , it follows Harry Potter , a young wizard who discovers his magical heritage on his eleventh birthday, when he receives a letter of acceptance to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harry makes close friends and a few enemies during his first year at the school, and with the help of his friends, Harry faces an attempted comeback by the dark wizard Lord Voldemort , who killed Harry's parents, but failed to kill Harry when he was just 15 months old.
The book - lot at Forum Auction - was an ex-library copy with 'bumped' corners and peeling laminate, reports the Mirror. But what makes it so special is that it's one of just copies of that edition ever printed, making it one of the very first times the wider public was introduced to the boy wizard. Of those , some of them are thought to have gone to libraries. But that still makes it "rare in any condition and a far better ex-library copy than usually encountered" as the lot description reads.
